The seat is back and the rassk rear set came in

The seat just came back from R&S upholstery and it is better then I could have hoped for. They lowered the seat height for me about an inch and made it look just like the drawing I gave them to go by. If you like the work you see, their website is www.randsupholstery.com, look them up. Also I found a set rear set on ebay for my bike. They are rassk and in good condition. I am off Thursday this week so I will have pictures up of the seat and the rear set then.

Getting there

So I spent some more time working on the bike. I sanded down, masked off and painted the side covers, painted the front and rear rims, tinted the rear taillight, and fabricated a bracket for the rear turn signals and mounted it. The Seat is off to get reshaped and upholstery at R&S Upholstery ( my parents shop family owned for over 25 years ). When ahead and replaced all the spark plugs and changed the air filter to uni performance filter.

Let the build begin

The front fender was way to big for the look I wanted so I cut it and reshaped it to my liking

Next I worked on getting the exhaust off which proved to not be in my favor. I broke two bolts off in the head. So now the top end has to come off, which is good and bad. Bad I have to do the extra work but good I can fix the oil leak and paint the top end. After a few choice words I got back to work on the front end after already rebuilding and servicing the front breaks and putting on new pads, the forks needed work. I sanded them down and painted them.

As you can see from the picture above I also painted the headlight and speedo cover. I also added some shorty turnsignals. Next I put on the shortened fender.

After getting the front end close to being done. I changed the oil, then moved to the back of the bike to start work back there. I masked off the wheel and the rear diff. for paint and took off the rear shock. I wanted a set of custom shocks for it but did not want to mess up the ride, so I cleaned up the springs and painted the top and bottom black to give is a custom look.

The tear down begins

I started by taking off all the vetter add-on's

This really changed the look of the bike and showed me a lot more work that had to be done

I started with the handle bars I put clubmen bars on it which later found out I HATE so they are now gone but they did look good for the few min. they were on there.

Then came the head light, I recycled the head light bucket and ring from the vetter fairing which fit perfect.

I also removed the front fender, which looked good to me but after the first rain I modified the fender and it is back on now. I will show those pictures in my next post.

In the begining

This is my 1980 Suzuki GS1000G the day I brought it home

I found this on craigslist, I have had a GS850G in the past and loved it. This one is really not my style but I will soon be building it to my vision.
